My current home office consists of… my bed, a desk with comfortable chair, a whiteboard and inboard, and a separate little room for product reviews. Basically, it’s bland. That’s why over the course of this new series, “How To Build A SICK Home Office” I will share with you how I’m upgrading my office, and how you can too. I’m going to try and keep the budget minimal, and I’m going to most importantly make it look awesome.
To start my renovation planning, I have to have some good examples to work off of. For these, I deferred to a few sources, and I’ll share those with you here. Next post we’ll get into my first mini-project of the large project.
Apple Store style Home office
I’m not willing to spend the time or the money doing this, because I’m not that obsessed, but kudos to this guy for putting in three months to build a stunning masterpiece. His name is David Wu, and he posted tons of inspiring photos of the finished project on his blog. From custom shelves and furniture filled with Apple products, to Apple-store replica displays to glass walls this guy built it all.
Lockergnome HQ (Chris Pirillo’s basement)
Chris’s huge home office features countless nicknacks, several computers and video game consoles, and more screens than I can count. Just check out his home office tour video to see what I mean.
“There’s a Library in the Ceiling”
How about that? Wade Davis, National Geographic’s explorer in residence has his library in his ceiling, for easy access, although there is only one way up and down.
Anybody Can Do It
Your home office is what you make of it. It’s a blank canvas solely constrained by the dimensions of the room. The Apple Store Home office is under 100 Square Feet, but it is designed so masterfully that you wouldn’t even notice. And you’re not alone on this quest. Not if you sign up for our newsletter anyways. Then you’ll know whenever we publish new tips, and we can throw around cool ideas. How about a nerf basketball hoop? Any idea goes. If you have any yet, throw them in the comments. Together we can build a SICK home office.
