Can We Really Trust Congress To Control our internet?

First of all, the average age of Congress is over 58 years old. The average age of U.S internet users is 37.  Nearly 75% of Facebook and Twitter users are under 45 according to Pingdom.com. Needless to say, Congress is clueless.

SOPA– the bill that will take away the freedom of the internet has been blasted by every Tech company, newspaper, blog, Youtube partner, and everyday citizen on the web. So why is it still likely to pass? Corruption. This is breaking news. Washington is corrupt and let me show you how.

Lamar Smith: He is the congressman that sponsored the bill. His biggest donor to his campaign by nearly a third is CC Holdings. CC is Clear channel- which owns concerts, and TV and radio stations. Concerts are some of the most pirated things on earth. So his big donor wants to stop this pirating from them. They call him… And he listens. Because he can be bought for $18,000. In fact he has received nearly $60,000 this year alone from the movie and television industry. This is his biggest cash cow.

Now let’s look at the bill’s cosponsors…

Howard L Berman: His biggest donor is also the TV and radio industry. He has received over $180,000 from them including $21,000 from Time Warner which owns several studios and television companies that lose money when people watch things online. The second biggest donor behind them is GE which is a part owner of NBC and its’ content.

Marsha Blackburn: Has received over $30,000 from the television industry this year.

John Conyers Jr: Has received $18,000 in donations from the television industry this year.

Elton Gallegly: received $4000 this year.

Tim Griffin: has received $11,000 this year.

Dennis Roth: has received over $20,000 this year.

Adam Schiff: has received $47,000 from the industry this year.

Lee Terry: has received over $18,000 this year.

It’s a shame that all of these politicians were corrupted by money. This needs to stop. We need to tell them that if they take away our freedoms they are fired. Enough is enough. Tell us what you think below.
