Q and A: “Can I make an app for free?”

Today on The App Store Chronicle we will cover the most common question asked by budding developers.

“Can I make an iphone app for free”.

The Answer is yes and no. You can develop an app for free using Xcode, Flash, and several other programs and websites. You can’t legally put it onto an iphone without joining the ios developer program for $99 per year.

Buying into the program will get you the latest code, beta versions of unreleased OSs and the ability to deploy your app to devices for testing and send to the app store. Without this you can not get onto the app store. There is always Cydia but that is a different story completely. So you can not make an app and use it on your phone for free legally. Sorry Guys.

Here’s my advice: Download the free version of Xcode and play around with it. Try to build an App and test it in the emulator. If you survive that first test and enjoy it and you can afford the $99 then go for it. This kid below had the right idea.
