If You Won $10,000, What Gadgets Would You Buy?

Inspired by DPS’s $1000 challenge, I wanted to ask readers, if you won $10,000 in Amazon gift cards, and you could buy up to 10 items, what would you buy? Here’s my list. Post your own in the comment section. A guy can dream, right?

  1. Olympus E-M5 16 MP Camera $1,200 – This is one of my favorite recent cameras. It’s weather sealed, perfectly sized for carrying, and it’s one of the most beautiful cameras around. It’s styled after Olympus’s M5 SLR from way back when, and it has a beautiful leather grip, and a metal body that just looks classy. It’s not the most professional camera (it’s not an SLR), but it’s got a built-in digital viewfinder and an OLED display, plus interchangeable lenses, giving it enough maneuverability to be fantastic. It’s also got killer image quality.
  2. Apple iPad with Retina display, 64 GB 4G LTE$900– At $900, the latest top of the line model of the iPad isn’t the most practical purchase, but considering we’re assuming I won $10,000, it’s a reasonable purchase. I love the simplicity of iOS, paired with its’ wide array of fantastic apps, and the killer design of the iPad. 64 GB provides enough storage for just about anything I could put on the tablet, and the 4G LTE is ultrafast. This is one of my favorite products I’ve ever used or tested, and I’d love to own one.
  3. Chromebook Pixel with 4G LTE$1800- Once again, this product isn’t the most practical, and I would never buy this with my own money – even if I could afford the price tag (my money goes towards my macbook pro- which I love), but with some extra funds, I’d love to join the cloud revolution. Life with a Pixel revolves around that beautiful, thin, high resolution touch screen, and it’s fantastic for movies, presentations, and other activities. I’d travel with it constantly, and make good use of the 4G LTE. 6100
  4. Sony 4K HDTV $5000 – 4K technology is another impractical tech that I would only invest in, if I was given a huge discount (or won a contest). There’s no 4K television yet, and there are very few movies that even support the ultra-high definition standard, which is currently reserved mostly for movie theaters. 4K resolution is incredible, but it’s soon going to dramatically reduce in price.
  5. Mbot Cube 3D Printer $1200 ($100 over budget). I just couldn’t stay under budget, and not buy this one with my imaginary $10,000. 3D printing is the future, being able to rapidly produce ideas in hours, instead of months. I’ve worked with 3D printers, and they’re a blast, but they’re still very expensive, and mainly for the hobbyist. The age of the 3D printer, like 4K, and the cloud, is coming though.

Whats on your nerdy $10k list?
