Formula One cars can travel at 180 MPH or more, But can they simultaniously run 15 RAM-intensive applications? Didn’t think so. I demoed the new Macbook Pro today and it’s truly something you have to see to believe.
The screen is incredible, and everyone talks about that rightfully, but what amazed be the most was the power they packed into this truly tiny computer. It just looks so strange next to the bulky laptops of today seeing the wicked thin 15 inch Retina Macbook Pro. I lifted the 13 inch macbook pro for comparison and it was heavier and felt much heavier due to its’ smaller form factor. Once you go light, you never go back (that didn’t come out right). Seriously, it’s incredible.
What’s even more incredible is the amount of power they were able to squeeze into such a tiny machine. I opened literally every application on the computer including iphoto, Garageband, imovie, Quicktime, several safari tabs, mail, and more and the computer was still running lightning fast. The proper amount of fast RAM, SSD, and Processor means programs open instantly and respond in perfect real time. I was able to open photobooth in less than 2 seconds and successfully take several images with all of the other apps running in the background. I couldn’t do that with two apps running in the background on my current macbook pro. I played nearly 4K video (courtesy of Youtube which offers some of the world’s only online 4,000 P video – remember that HD is 1080p) and after a few seconds of buffering for full screen mode it played seamlessly with beautiful sound.
Speaking of sound, the machine is dead quiet thanks to its’ lack of a single moving part. Pretty much no other computer company can claim that. From my initial tests, although the Macbook Pro has an extremely high pricepoint it is rightfully high based on the incredible machine they have created. In 5 years you will be able to buy this machine for $800 instead of $2300-3000, but owning the future of technology now will make you the envy of your friends, speed up your life by triple, and give you as a business owner or student a competitive advantage. So that’s my initial thoughts. Happy summer!
